Bernard Hughes: I Drew My Ship

This English folksong was first collected in 1882 in Northumbrian Minstrelsy, a collection of ballads, melodies and small pipe tunes of Northumbria. It is a beautiful tune setting strange and ambiguous words – and both these features are captured in this atmospheric setting for upper voice choir. Using drone textures and subtle interplay between the voices, this setting is perfect for choirs of all ages.
