Bernard Hughes: The River’s Course

This piece for SSA choir (no divisi) and piano is a setting of a text about the River Niger by Nigerian-American writer Chinwe D. John. The setting is melodic and rhythmically exciting, with a propulsive piano part. It builds to a big climax and would work well in any concert setting for a middle school/high school treble choir, particularly a group looking for words from a writer with an unusual and diverse background.
